About the event

In the post-epidemic era, the world seems to be gradually returning to normal. However, the global economy is now facing new and emerging challenges, from climate change and geopolitical instability to technological disruption and recent banking turmoil. What should investors do to maintain resilience and manage risks in an uncertain economic environment?


In this seminar, we will bring together leading experts to explore the lessons learned from past financial crises and the strategies that businesses and economies have employed to overcome them. This retrospective analysis will provide insights into how the industry has evolved and adapted to shifting trends and changing market conditions, and explore the opportunities and risks they present.


About moderator

Ms. Jienan Han, CFA

Director of HKU iCube, HKU newly built knowledge exchange centre 

Ms. Jienan Han, the Director of HKU's newly developed knowledge exchange centre, HKU iCube. Ms. Han is a seasoned professional with a wealth of experience and connection with the talents in various academic topics such as ESG, AI & Web3 and Art.

Ms. Han also holds a Master degree in Architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master degree in Business Administration from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Her diverse educational background and expertise in both fields have equipped her with a unique perspective on the intersection of technology and society.


About Speaker

Dr. Christine Loh

Chief Development Strategist Institute for the Environment, The Hong Kong Univesity of Sicence and Technology

Dr. Christine Loh is Chief Development Strategist, Institute for the Environment at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. She is a lawyer by training and a commodities trader by profession. In the 1990s, she became a prominent legislator, before establishing a non-profit think tank to help find policy solutions. She is a former Undersecretary for the Environment in the HKSAR Government.

Christine served on the board of the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, and is currently on the boards of CDP Worldwide, Global Maritime Forum, New Forests Pty Limited, and Towngas Smart Energy Company Limited. She has authored many academic and popular works, and received many awards.


Dr. Scott D. Peterman, CFA

Licensed Attorney in Hong Kong, New York & Washington, D.C.

Scott D. Peterman, Ph.D., CFA, is an attorney licensed in Hong Kong, New York, and Washington, D.C., advising on corporate and commercial transactions with a primary focus on private equity and venture capital, fund formation, alternative investments, and entrepreneurial transactions, primarily involving technology companies. Prior to transitioning to a career in law, Mr. Peterman was Apple’s first country manager for China and Korea. Also, Mr. Peterman has been Vice-Chairman of CFA Society Japan, and Vice-Chairman and Treasurer of the Washington Association of Money Managers.


Mr. Alvin Ho, CFA

President of CFA Society Hong Kong

Alvin Ho is an experienced investment principal with a track record in private equity. He currently splits his time between managing a portfolio of private investments and institutional investing on one end, and handholding start-ups and grown-ups seeking new iterations on the other. In addition, he serves as a board member for listed companies and NGOs and is a member of investment committees for funds and platforms. Previously the legal and executive representative for the local currency funds incorporated in Beijing and Chengdu, Alvin was the Head of China for a regional private equity growth fund.

Ho holds various post-graduate degrees from Tsinghua University and London Business School and is on course to complete a Ph.D. with the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. He has authored two books in Chinese on the economics of sports.
