This talk will change the way you think about math. The Speaker, one of the world's most famous math professors, will start from an activity which combines human psychology and math, to show how creative mathematical analysis has the power to predict and even change human behavior. He will then switch to tell behind-the-scenes stories from his own experience turning pure mathematics into inventions that solve population-scale problems. This talk is designed to be attractive, entertaining, and inspiring.Â

Po-Shen Loh is a social entrepreneur and inventor, working across the spectrum of mathematics, education, and healthcare, all around the world. He is a math professor at Carnegie Mellon University, and the national coach of the USA International Mathematical Olympiad team. He has pioneered innovations ranging from a scalable way to learn challenging math live online at comparable engagement to live-streaming entertainment, to a new way to control pandemics by leveraging self-interest.
